Who we are
We are an artistic researcher and a marine biologist united by a shared commitment to conservation, combining artistic inquiry and scientific knowledge to deepen relationships with the natural world.
Ways of Being is the shared practice of Yasha Jain and Asiem Sanyal—a new media artist and a marine biologist united by a shared commitment to conservation. One of us writes code and builds installations; the other works with the sea and coastal communities. We keep finding that both practices are driven by the same impulse: to make the invisible relationships that sustain life perceptible.
We are interested in creating experiences that invite people to slow down, pay attention, and encounter the living world in new ways. Working at the intersection of art, science, and technology, we explore how ecological knowledge can become sensory, creating spaces where a deeper relationship with the natural world can emerge.
Asiem Sanyal
Marine conservation
Asiem Sanyal is a marine biologist, conservationist, author and artist whose work explores the intersections of biodiversity, sustainable livelihoods and environmental education. With extensive experience across Small Island Developing States, he is passionate about the relationship between people and the ecosystems they depend on. Through science, storytelling and art, he seeks to make the natural world more visible, meaningful and valued.
Asiem is currently working as a Conservation Consultant, providing specialist consultancy services across a range of conservation areas, with a particular focus on marine conservation.

Yasha Jain
Art & technology
Yasha Jain (weirdwithcode) is a technologist and new media artist whose work explores the intersection of technology, nature and conservation. With a background in technology and a deep-rooted passion for the natural world, she uses code and digital media as creative tools to reimagine how we experience and connect with nature. Her practice bridges the digital and ecological, creating work that invites curiosity, wonder and a deeper appreciation for the living world.
Yasha is currently working at ZKM Hertz Lab in Karlsruhe as an artistic researcher and developer.
